Ban fireworks to protect our beloved pets

Ban fireworks to protect our beloved pets
The Issue
My own dog, like many others, is absolutely terrified of fireworks. It's heartbreaking to watch him cower in fear every time a firework goes off, catching him completely off guard. I've heard countless stories from fellow pet owners about terrifying incidents. One friend shared how their dog was simply out in the garden when a firework startled them so badly that it caused severe physical harm. Another pet tragically died from the sheer terror induced by fireworks.
Fireworks have become a recurrent nightmare for pet owners across London and the UK, extending even globally. Despite existing rules and restrictions intended to regulate the use of fireworks, they frequently go unenforced or inadequately managed by local authorities and law enforcement. This negligence leaves our pets—dogs, cats, horses, and many more—vulnerable to extreme anxiety, fear, and even death.
Statistics reveal an alarming number of pet injuries and fatalities linked to fireworks. According to the RSPCA, hundreds of animals suffer from distress during firework season each year, leading to unnecessary vet visits, injuries, or worse. The auditory threshold of many animals is significantly lower than that of humans, making the loud explosion of fireworks unbearably painful and frightening to them.
The time has come to take decisive action against this preventable harm. We must push our local councils and governments to enforce a ban on the general sale and use of fireworks, except for licensed, controlled events. This way, we can minimize the hazardous impact on our beloved animals while still allowing people to enjoy celebratory occasions in a safe and regulated manner.
Please join me in advocating for a safer environment for pets by signing this petition. Together, we can urge policymakers to take concrete steps to protect animals from the unnecessary trauma caused by fireworks.
