The Issue

Every 4th of July and New Year's, the residents of Larkspur, located in Williamson County, Texas, face an ordeal. For hours, we are forced to endure the loud bangs and blasts of fireworks, which start in the days leading up to these holidays. During last New Year's alone, the fireworks continued for more than eight hours. This not only creates an unbearable noise level but poses a significant safety risk.

Fireworks are often set off in the streets of our neighborhoods, with spent casings and embers peppering surrounding homes. These aren't secluded areas; Larkspur is a densely populated community with over 1600 homes, each spaced merely ten feet apart. Families with children, pets, and elderly residents live here, many of whom are sensitive to loud noises or have specific health needs. The fireworks disrupt sleep cycles, cause anxiety, and could potentially spark fires given how close the homes are to one another.

The law in unincorporated areas like ours is lax when it comes to prohibiting fireworks, leaving residents vulnerable to these dangers without any real recourse. As fireworks use isn't restricted, residents must endure unnecessary disturbances and risks, turning what should be a time of celebration into a period of stress and concern.

The risk of fire is especially pronounced in areas like Larkspur, which face hot and dry conditions during the summer months, exacerbating potential hazards. Given Williamson County's frequency of drought conditions, it's only a matter of time before this oversight leads to a tragedy.

We propose a straightforward solution: Implement a ban on unauthorized use of fireworks in densely populated unincorporated neighborhoods across Williamson County. Such a measure will protect our homes, our families, and our peace of mind.

Please help us ensure the safety and well-being of our community by signing this petition to urge county officials to take immediate action against unauthorized fireworks in our neighborhoods.
