This tragic event necessitated the deployment of over 12 dedicated fire engines manned by 60 brave firefighters, heroically battling the blaze to prevent further loss.
This catastrophe was not due to natural forces beyond our control, but the result of fireworks set off recklessly just after midnight by individuals in the neighbourhood. These fireworks were not part of any authorised celebration, but instead an instance of thoughtlessness that escalated into a major emergency. The ensuing chaos placed an undue burden on our emergency services and put countless lives at risk. Neighbours cowered in their homes, fearful of what might come next.
We must act swiftly to prevent such a heart-wrenching event from recurring. Fireworks, whilst traditional and celebratory, can also be incredibly dangerous when misused. We are calling for a ban on all fireworks usage by individuals, restricting their use to authorised public events at regulated times only. This measure would reduce the risk of uncontrollable fires, prevent panic amongst residents, and give a sense of safety back to our streets.
Furthermore, authorized displays should be regulated with stringent safety measures, including pre-event risk assessments and designated safety zones. These steps are not just reasonable but are necessary to protect our community from future devastation.
