Rubber seals, plastic parts, and certain metals found in traditional car engines are particularly vulnerable to corrosion from high ethanol concentrations. In India, where many vehicles are not designed or optimized to handle such a fuel blend, the consequences are dire.

Numerous mechanics and automotive experts have pointed out that E20 can lead to increased wear and tear, frequent repairs, and ultimately reduce the lifespan of vehicles. Additionally, vehicles running on E20 may face reduced fuel efficiency and performance issues, translating into higher costs for owners and a greater environmental footprint in the long run due to more frequent fuel consumption and higher emissions from malfunctioning engines.

Furthermore, studies have indicated that most Indian vehicles are calibrated for fuels with a maximum of 10% ethanol. This mismatch means that engines are not operating efficiently with E20, which can lead to increased carbon monoxide emissions and potentially negate any environmental benefits touted by proponents of this fuel.

To protect vehicle owners and ensure the longevity and efficiency of our country's automotive fleet, it is crucial that authorities take action immediately. We call upon the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas and automotive regulatory bodies in India to reconsider the widespread adoption of E20 fuel and enforce a ban. Instead, resources should be directed towards promoting fuels that are both environmentally friendly and compatible with the existing vehicle infrastructure in India.
