Dropside cots have caused injuries and deaths in Australia!!!

Yes you read that correctly.

So why are they still allowed to be sold? Unfortunately under the current Cot safety standard which was written in 2003 (19 years ago!) it is still legal to sell dropside cots even though they have been known to have the actual dropside mechanism fail and cause injuries and death.

In 2010 ACCC submitted a request that there be further investigation and testing to drop side cots. Still the standard have NOT changed.

Drop side cots can still be legally sold  in Australia despite the fact that there have been injuries and even deaths caused by the drop side mechanism failing while a child has been asleep in the cot.

There have been articles about this happening to. 

Companies that sell drop side cots even list the safety of the mechanisms failing with use as a negative for buying them.

Why have our cot standards not been updated in 20 years (in which during this time deaths and injuries have happened) but nothing has changed. ACCC has called for further testing but that also has not happened.

Why is our government so relaxed when it comes to the safety of our babies and young children?
