Ban Dogs in NYC!

The Issue

Neighborhood Street Sign

When Bindu Bansimath bemoaned the increasing animosity New Yorkers feel and show entitled dog owners in NYC in her April 19, 2024 article in The Cut, little did she know she was making a case to ban dogs in NYC forever.

NYC is not a place for dogs. And New Yorkers do not want to share their streets, parks, supermarkets, etc. with dogs. Dogs are not babies. They are animals and should be raised in the countryside, preferably on farms.

There is too much dog waste on the streets of NYC. The streets and parks are literally smeared with dog feces and dripping in dog urine.

NYC is already teeming with human beings - for whom NYC was built. There are roughly 8 million human beings in NYC and roughly 1 million dogs. One of us has to go, and it cannot be the humans.

New York City is incompatible with dogs. Animal shelters are unable to accommodate anymore surrendered dogs.

Did you know that dog urine and feces can cause serious illness in human beings? Dogs carry diseases that can seriously damage human beings' health and can sometimes result infections that lead to amputations and potentially death.

Dog feces and urine carry many illnesses that can make humans sick.

It would be one thing if dog owners cleaned up after their dogs. But two Democratic mayors in, and the City's focus is no longer on keeping NYC clean, it can't even keep the City safe.  Buildings, marble statue edifices, sidewalks, cars, shrubs, trees, beautiful park lawns, and on and on. Every nook and cranny of NYC is a bathroom for the NYC dog.

Dog owners do not care about the inconvenience or the filth that their dogs create for other New Yorkers on the streets of NYC. That looks like big wet puddles of dog urine in the middle of the sidewalk.

That looks like big piles of dog poo on the sidewalks or lurking in the grass on the lawn you want to sit on.

That looks like having to negotiate smears of dog poo and urine on the sidewalks. That looks like getting dog poo on your shoes and then having to not get it in your house or your office. That looks like unbelievable stinks in the summer. That looks like people bringing dogs on public transport even though it is prohibited to do so. That looks like people grooming their dogs in public spaces and leaving dog hairs and other detritus behind for others to deal with. And that looks like a permanent threat to all of our health all year round.

Dogs don't belong in NYC. They are a nuisance and pose a serious health hazard.

And what will happen if we don't get this problem solved?

We humans will have to continue to live - against our will - in the filth created by dog owners who refuse to curb their dogs.

In the meantime, dog owners should be held accountable for the filth their dogs cause. For example, dog owners should be liable to clean the streets and parks where they let their dogs poo and pee. The rules should be enforced to minimize the harmful impact of dogs on NYC life.

Sign this petition to get NYC to put a stop to this problem that has gotten out of control and we humans can begin to enjoy the NYC that was made for us without having to worry about dog poo and pee.
