Ban dogs from restaurants

The Issue

My daughter recently suffered a frightening experience when she was attacked by a dog inside a restaurant. This should never happen to anyone. Restaurants are places for people to enjoy a meal in peace, without fearing for their safety. In shared public spaces like these, it is crucial that the well-being and comfort of humans are prioritised.

approximately 4.5 million dog bites occur each year. Out of these, an alarming 800,000 require medical attention.

Having dogs in restaurants elevates this risk considerably, as cramped quarters and unfamiliar surroundings can easily spook animals into unpredictable behavior.

While guide dogs are trained to handle a variety of situations, many dogs lack the necessary social training and behaviour management to remain calm in busy and noisy environments. With the growing trend of dining establishments allowing pets, the probability of altercations between dogs and diners – especially vulnerable children – is increasing.

A restaurant should be a sanctuary from the stress of daily life, a space where families can bond over a meal. Yet, allowing dogs into these spaces compromises customer safety, sanitation, and enjoyment. The presence of animals can provoke allergies, injuries, and even health code violations, fundamentally disrupting the dining experience.

Our goal is to urge local councils to enact regulations that only allow guide dogs in restaurant areas. By doing so, everyone can dine without fear or discomfort.

Please sign this petition to help make restaurants a safe and welcoming space for all.
