Ban Dog Breeding as Work

The Issue

After personally adopting and saving my beloved dog, I've become acutely aware of the countless animals languishing in shelters, yearning for loving homes. It breaks my heart to see countless dogs in need, while breeders continuously bring more puppies into the world, often prioritizing profit over the well-being of these sentient beings.

Dog breeding, as a form of work, should be banned in Long Beach, California. It's time that we address this pressing issue and encourage a societal shift towards adoption and the ethical treatment of animals. Every year, millions of dogs in the U.S. are euthanized because of overpopulation. According to the ASPCA, approximately 3.1 million dogs enter shelters nationwide annually, and about 390,000 of these dogs are euthanized. By banning breeding, we can significantly reduce these numbers and give more dogs a second chance at a happy life.

Implementing a ban on dog breeding in would encourage prospective pet owners to consider adoption, directly benefitting the countless animals waiting in shelters. This approach can ease the burden on local shelters and rescue organizations, freeing up resources that can be allocated to care for and rehome existing animals.

Realistically, this ban would restrict irresponsible breeding practices and promote responsible pet ownership. We have the opportunity to set a precedent for other communities, demonstrating a commitment to the humane treatment of animals. Additionally, transitioning those involved in breeding into other compassionate roles, such as animal care or rescue services, would ensure their livelihoods are preserved while contributing to a greater cause.

Join me in advocating for this progressive change and help create a future where every animal has a chance to thrive. Your support is crucial to making a difference for dogs. Please sign this petition to ban dog breeding as a form of work and promote a compassionate, adoption-first mindset.
