Ban Discriminatory Employment Policies Against Tattoos
Ban Discriminatory Employment Policies Against Tattoos
The Issue
My struggle with unemployment is personal. Despite the high rates of unemployment my country faces, I, like many others, find myself unemployed due to being judged for my appearance. Tattoos are now a reflection of personal choices and a lifestyle and far removed from criminal associations.
Sadly, due to certain policies regarding visible tattoos, many capable people are excluded from fair employment opportunities, contributing to our country's rising unemployment crisis. An estimated 20% of the South African population has one or more tattoos, and this percentage is even higher in younger age groups (Source: Statista). It's now time to redefine our perception of tattoos in the professional setting.
Unfair discrimination based on physical appearances, such as tattoos, is a grave violation of basic human rights and contradicts the principles of equality. The days associating tattoos with delinquency are long gone and it's high time our employment policies reflect this change.
This petition calls for the abolition of employment policies that discriminate against visible tattoos, promoting fair opportunities for all citizens, irrespective of their body art.
Let's fight for equal employment opportunities and non-discriminatory employment practices. Sign this petition to bring about necessary change and to stop judging talented individuals by their skin artwork.
