As a concerned Alberta citizen and non-profit journalist, I am deeply troubled by the operations of a so-called "sex club" known as "Club Rendezvous" (or "CR"), located in both Calgary and Edmonton, located at 5-2280 39 Ave NE (a shared/strip-warehouse bearing no signage, between other professional businesses located near Coca-Cola). 

These establishments, which claim to operate as "private, members-only clubs," are skirting the legal boundaries and posing significant threats to our community's well-being.

Club Rendezvous advertises one vision to the public, but their true operations tell a different story. These clubs have become breeding grounds for illicit activities, including drug use and abuse, often under the guise of a supposed safe and private environment. The club's owners, a Dutch-Canadian man and his wife, are facilitating an alarming culture of neglect, which makes these places havens for those suffering from sexual addiction — a tragic condition that commonly stems from past sexual abuse. 
The ‘staff members’ who help facilitate the operation of this establishment are ‘trusted’ former and current ‘members’ that have been promoted within to fill the roles. These ‘trusted’ staff members do not get paid; rather they alternate their nights between themselves and receive discounts (ex. Free admission to the clubs, half-priced drinks, etc,) in exchange for cleaning soiled beds, floors, and restrooms — handling admission fees at the door, bartending, etc. 

If that’s not eerie enough, to add to this; the ‘staff’ or ‘trusted members’ have the authority to let in ‘who they want to, and reject those they don’t’. 
The most disgusting part of this, is that the ‘staff’ have access to all of the online members personal information—as well as—taking note as to whom will be attending or participating at the club; allowing them to prey on the vulnerable. 
The ‘staff’ are required to be endorsements of the company and will ‘put on a show’ for newcomers at bare minimum but young men and women in particular are vulnerable to sexual harassment and abuse. 

The ramifications of allowing such establishments to continue unchecked in Calgary and Edmonton extend far beyond their walls. They contribute to the ongoing victimization of vulnerable individuals, who may already be struggling with addiction and trauma. Keeping Club Rendezvous open under the guise of legality not only compromises their safety but also indirectly supports a cycle of abuse and addiction.

My plea to the authorities and citizens of Alberta is to recognize the serious consequences these clubs have on our communities. We cannot turn a blind eye to their harmful activities cloaked under the thin veil of legality. Immediate action is required to address and halt the operation of Club Rendezvous. Closing these clubs would not only protect current victims but also prevent the potential for more individuals to fall prey to their destructive environment.
