Ban Animal Use for Entertainment Globally

Ban Animal Use for Entertainment Globally
The Issue
We are animals and therefore, other species should be treated with the same rights and respect humans have. If humans were subjected to abuse, forced into harsh conditions, and made to perform for entertainment, there would undoubtedly be consequences. This same standard of morality and ethics should be applied to humans abusing and using animals for entertainment.
Around the world, countless animals are captured, confined, and compelled to perform in various forms of entertainment such as circuses, aquariums, and mobile zoos. These practices are not only inhumane but also outdated, reflecting a lack of respect for the intrinsic value of all living creatures. Animals in circuses often endure cramped conditions, lack of proper veterinary care, and are trained using fear and punishment. Marine animals, like those in SeaWorld, are held in unnatural enclosures far removed from their natural habitats, often leading to physical and psychological stress.
A 2015 report by the World Animal Protection organization highlighted that 96% of animals in circuses spend their lives in cages, while the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society notes that dolphins swim up to 40 miles a day in the wild, but in captivity, they exist in spaces a mere fraction of their normal range. This stark contrast clearly illustrates the disparity between their needs and their reality in the entertainment industry.
A PETA article also states how animals are imprisoned and forced to perform silly tricks, often for their entire lives, for the sake of human entertainment and a money incentive. The conditions animals live in, whether on the move or stationary, are inexcusable. Cramped, chained, filthy conditions would never be acceptable for human workplaces nowadays. So why is this deemed as acceptable for animals like elephants, bears, apes and many more? Animals are frequently separated from friends and family and most animals in the entertainment business will likely live in unethical conditions, abused and forced to perform their entire lives.
The impact on animals in entertainment is not hidden. We can see the physical consequences on these animals right before our eyes yet companies, big or small, continue to capitalise off of animals in entertainment. Psychological impacts on each animal in entertainment will impact each animal for their whole lives including extreme PTSD and psychological distress. These signs are comparable to human symptoms of psychological distress so such as swaying and pacing so why is animal psychological distress overlooked and ignored.
Orcas commonly suffer from Dorsal Fin Collapse as a result of confinement to a significantly smaller habitat compared to the vast distances orcas cover in the wild.
Elephants are tied down and beaten with bullhooks to obey their trainers. This causes physical injuries as well as breaking their spirits. Elephants typically develop PTSD from their 'training'.
Big cats such as lions develop arthritis and joint problems due to the cramped conditions, abuse and tricks they are 'trained' to perform.
The list of animals affected and physical and psychological consequences of animals in entertainment is not exhaustive. This practice - whether it's bull fighting, a dolphin show, a photo opportunity with an elephant or a donkey ride - it all needs to end with the currently captive animals rescued and given a chance at a good life despite being taken from their natural, wild lives.
We need a global legislative action to prohibit the use of animals for entertainment, ensuring that no animal is subjected to an existence of confinement and exploitation for human amusement. Countries like Bolivia, Greece, and India have already introduced bans on the use of animals in circuses and have set a precedent that must be followed.
The entertainment industry does not need to rely on animals. Film and TV have access to advancing technology and animals should be CGI or other special effects rather than using real animals.
Help put an end to these cruel and unnecessary practices. Demand a worldwide ban on using animals for entertainment purposes by signing this petition. Together, we can create a world where animals are given the respect and freedom they deserve.
