The Issue

Kulumayee Amman Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to a powerful local deity located near Uyyakondan in Trichy District of Tamilnadu. Kulumayee Amman is a village deity mainly for the Vellala community people. During festival seasons, the place is crowded; even thousands of goats/sheep get sacrificed.

The highlight of the event is that Marulali, the designated person to represent Goddess Kulumai Amman, sits fasting for more than a month and purifies himself for the rituals. On the day of the Kutti Kudi Thiruvizha festival, Marulali accepts the goat sacrifice and drinks the gushing blood of the goats, sometimes the number exceeds a thousand. The festival is attended by thousands of devotees from nearby villages. People enjoy the festivities and the grand feast following the rituals.

I have been in this locality for 26 years, and I have seen fights for becoming marulali if a previous marulali dies. Choosing a marulali has become based on caste, I have witnessed fights because of this, and I have seen lots of localities being drunk, high, and lifting marulali. Even here Caste started to play its role.

The Vedic scriptures sanction occasional animal sacrifice to satisfy cruel, low-class men who cannot live without the taste of flesh and blood.

Nowadays, everyone is having meat even as said in Vedhas "low-class men" also. This petition is not to change your mindset about the god you pray to, respect your god but it doesn't mean that you should sacrifice an animal for your prayer.

Example: A couple was having trouble getting pregnant, and they were getting societal pressure for not having a kid (stereotypes), so the relatives suggested praying to God when you give birth to a kid that you will sacrifice an animal. The couple sought a doctor's advice, got proper counseling and treatment, and finally had a baby. Now, they buy a goat, feed him/her, bathe the goat, and decorate him/her with flowers and that goat will be standing in fear in the queue and will be sacrificed today 29/02/2024.
If you believe that god creates creatures, then How can a god create a soul and accept another soul's (goat) death is decided by that "couple and their society". Would your god accept that? If he/she is the one who has the right to create or take one's life.
Does the goat trouble that couple in any way for not getting pregnant? What does that goat do? (This is not about you to become vegan or stop eating meat)

What is the point of sacrificing a goat and having a feast by cooking the same goat?

This is taking pleasure in violence, they cruelly slaughter innocent animals in sacrifice for their sense of gratification and thus worship God.

Under Article 51-A(g), every citizen has to protect and improve the natural environment, including wildlife, and show compassion towards all living creatures. Article 48A emphasizes the state’s responsibility to safeguard the environment, forests, and wildlife.

If you live in my locality, you will know the struggle, continuous power cut for two days, this happens during board exams what students will do if they have a power cut as stated by Vedhas low-class men have to taste blood at least once a year so does that low-class men have inverter connection without interruption for 48 hours? Crowds visit small traders, florists, artisans, and the general public who make a living from that will be disturbed by drunk men loitering on the roads.

Even a former CM in our Tamil Nadu state tried to stop the ritual slaughter and it was banned for one year but it started to continue illegally and the ruling party also changed back in those days. This is just a small ritual sacrifice where thousands of goats are slaughtered, bigger festivals are happening in North India which includes lakhs of cattle being slaughtered.

In India, there are multiple cultures followed under Hinduism. One culture says even an onion should not be consumed because it is a root vegetable and another  culture says Cow is a sacred animal. This sacrifice started because in Vedhas it is written as "Rakthabeejan" who wanted to kill the world was defeated by the god "kali" who took a form to defeat
"Rakthabeejan". Raktha means blood so whenever he was wounded, another form of him will come so kaali took all the blood of Rakthabeejan and drank the blood. Rakthabeejan was also defeated and kali is also a vegetarian who just took a form to save the world according to Hinduism. Now, it's practiced in the form of superstitious beliefs and caste.

If they follow according to the Vedas, even polygamy was practiced in Hinduism in the ancient period but now it stopped in 90s because they were humans, had the right to voice out and change the law.

Ancestors just created an icon so that the next generation could follow their ritual and in the modern world, it now ended as an icon which consists of impurity, rage, superstitious and mainly "status symbol".

This is 2024, respect, and pray to your god but don't get mad driven by this superstitious belief like sacrificing animals for your success or failure in your life.
