The Issue

Growing up surrounded by loving pets, I developed a deep bond with animals that has only strengthened over time. I care for animals deeply, and it pains me to witness any form of cruelty against them. However, social media platforms like Facebook have become an avenue for sharing horrific content showcasing animal abuse, which not only desensitizes audiences but also perpetuates cruel behavior.

Every day, disturbing videos and images of animal cruelty surface on Facebook, reaching users across the globe. According to the ASPCA, over 10 million animals in the United States alone are abused or neglected annually. Many of these instances are shared online, sometimes even glorified by individuals who seek attention through violence. This is unacceptable and must change.

Facebook, as one of the largest social media platforms globally, has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of all lives its users engage with, including animals. While Facebook's community standards currently disallow content that glorifies violence, these rules need to be more stringent and effectively enforced when it comes to animal abuse.

We propose that Facebook implement a more thorough content review process, leveraging advanced AI technologies and increased human oversight to detect and prevent the sharing of animal abuse content. Additionally, Facebook should establish stricter penalties for users who repeatedly post or support such content, including permanent bans.

By taking these actions, Facebook can lead the tech industry in promoting animal welfare and setting a precedent for all online platforms. Help us create a safer world for animals by urging Facebook to take decisive steps against animal abuse content.

Please sign this petition to compel Facebook to ban all animal abuse content and help protect our beloved creatures. Together, we can make a difference.
