Ban All Garden Pesticides in the UK to Preserve Our Ecosystem

The Issue

As a  bee keeper, bird watcher, and dedicated nature lover, I have personally witnessed the devastating effects of garden pesticides on our local wildlife and ecosystems in the UK. There is something profoundly wrong about being able to spread poison around with no regard for our climate emergency. No weeds equals no insects and given that 87% of our plants are pollinated by animals (mostly insects) we are ultimately harming ourselves.

Pesticides kill indiscriminately, decimating insect populations which are vital for biodiversity and pollination. According to a report by the Wildlife Trusts, 41% of insect species face extinction due to the extensive use of pesticides and habitat loss. Bees in particular, are at tremendous risk.

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) reports that pesticides also directly affect bird populations by killing off their food sources.

Our planet is our home, and the home of countless species who live, breed, and contribute to the complex web of life that sustains us all. It is high time we reconsider the use of garden pesticides, over which we wield control. I implore our UK lawmakers to introduce legislation banning the use of all pesticides in private and public gardens, parks, and green spaces around the country.

By doing so, we take a bold step forward for biodiversity, advancing environmental stewardship and preserving the beauty and health of our green landscapes for future generations to come. For the bees, for the birds, for all life, please sign this petition and join us in safeguarding our natural world.
