The Issue

Every year, countless lives are shattered due to irresponsible alcohol consumption. For many, the pain is too real, having known loved ones who have suffered or even died due to alcohol-related incidents. In Texas, alcohol-induced car collisions, overdoses, and assaults paint a grim picture of the havoc this substance can wreak. My own heart breaks when I think of the families torn apart by these avoidable tragedies.

The statistics are alarming: In Texas alone, there are thousands of car accidents annually where alcohol is a factor. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, nearly 25% of all traffic fatalities in Texas in the past year involved a driver under the influence of alcohol. And it's not just the roads; alcohol abuse leads to hospitalizations, crimes, and long-lasting social issues.

But it's not just about numbers; it's about people. Individuals like Sarah, a vibrant young woman, who was lost too soon due to a drunk driving accident. Or Michael, who faced a life-altering injury in a bar fight exacerbated by alcohol. These are real people, not just statistics.

The solution is clear. It's time to take a stand and ban the sale of alcohol in Texas. While this may seem drastic to some, the lives we could save and the suffering we could prevent are worth it. Other regions have seen success in reducing alcohol-related harms through such measures, and Texas can lead the way in prioritizing the welfare of its citizens.

Prohibition may not completely eliminate alcohol-related issues, but it significantly lowers the availability and consumption, reducing negative outcomes. In communities where alcohol sales have been restricted, there is a notable decline in related crimes and health issues.

We call on the Texas Legislature to pass a law prohibiting the sale of alcohol throughout the state. Together, we can create a safer community for ourselves, our families, and future generations.

Sign this petition to demand action from our lawmakers. The time for change is now. Let's make Texas a safer place for everyone.
