Ban AI in hermitage academy
The Issue
Hermitage academy has supported young artists, musicians, and writers for years. The school has provided resources and opportunities for young people and promotes hard work and effort. I was appalled to see that the very presentation about said hard work and effort was almost entirely AI generated, contradicting the very thing it stood for. Why should I work hard and put in effort if all of the teachers around me just sit back and use AI to do all their work? The school is full of budding graphic designers and artists- jobs that will most likely eventually cease to exist should AI continue on this trajectory- and yet, teachers, even art teachers are choosing to AI generate posters, slideshows and displays.
I have also seen that the school seems fairly proud of its eco-friendly image, and it would be a shame for its perfect streak to be ruined by the constant use of a tool that consumes more water than the average uk home (data centres use 18 million litres of water per day, whereas the average uk household uses on average, 868 litres per week.)
I will not stand for this bare-faced hypocrisy any longer, and I call for all teachers and staff members in the school to abandon the AI. I don't want to see music teachers encouraging students to AI generate song lyrics, art teachers using Chatgpt to give art advice or pastoral care making AI slideshows about hard work ever again. I also demand that teachers penalise pupils for AI content in their work as prompting takes no skill and will not help the pupils learn anything.
