The Issue

Since I have moved to Mississippi, I have sincerely appreciated the tranquil environment where I can gaze up at the clear skies, breathe fresh air, and enjoy the natural beauty that envelops our community. Now more than ever, as a parent, I want nothing less for my children. I envision raising them in a place where they can thrive safely, surrounded by clean air, adequate water resources, and a dependable power supply. However, the construction of AI datacenters in our town threatens this dream.

AI datacenters are known for their significant environmental impact. They consume vast amounts of electricity and water, often leading to power shortages and strained water supplies in local communities. According to the International Energy Agency, datacenters worldwide account for about 1% of the global electricity demand, a figure projected to increase as the demand for AI processing grows. Our small town's infrastructure is not equipped to handle such an influx, and the environmental toll could be catastrophic.

Moreover, datacenters can negatively affect air quality due to their cooling systems, which release pollutants and increase greenhouse gases. With Brandon's unique ecosystem and tight-knit community, any disruption in the balance of our natural surroundings could have long-lasting consequences for both wildlife and human residents.

As citizens of Brandon, it is our responsibility to protect our town's environment for current and future generations. Local authorities have the power to make informed decisions that align with the well-being of our community rather than external interests. By banning AI datacenters, we can preserve the safety and essence of our hometown.

Join me in urging Brandon's city council and Mayor to act now. By signing this petition, you are taking a stand to protect our environment, resources, and ultimately, our way of life. Together, we can ensure that Brandon remains a healthy and vibrant place for our children. Please sign and share this petition today, and let’s safeguard our beloved community against harmful industrial impacts.
