The Issue

Pinterest is a space I used to turn to for genuine creative inspiration, a platform where artists and creators share unique, human-made designs that genuinely resonate with the world. However, the recent influx of AI-generated content on Pinterest is threatening this experience. It has made it difficult to find authentic, human-crafted ideas and patterns, stifling genuine creative expression and eroding the sense of community among creators.

As a person who has relied heavily on Pinterest for the understanding of craft and discovering ideas shared by the creative people around the globe, the platform now feels frustrating and oversaturated with generic AI-generated designs. These designs lack the personal touch and emotional depth that human artistry brings, deterring those of us who seek the authenticity of human creativity.

We pride ourselves on unique, human-generated creativity, yet, with AI art, the soul of genuine creation gets overshadowed by algorithmically generated content. Without any clear distinctions between AI-generated and human-created content, the original purpose of Pinterest as a community for artistic expression and idea sharing is being dissolved.

While AI can be incredibly useful, platforms like Pinterest should prioritize human creativity to preserve the core essence of why users visit and the community artists have built. We propose adding tools or filters that clearly separate AI-created from human-created content, allowing users who prefer true artistic endeavors to filter out the AI content effortlessly.

Please join me in urging Pinterest to ban AI-generated content or at least provide clear labeling and filtering options to preserve the authenticity and originality that this community stands for. We need your signatures to help bring back genuine creative expression to Pinterest. Sign this petition today and help us ensure that Pinterest remains a community by the people and for the people, not machines.
