Ban Advertising on Detroit Tiger’s Uniforms
The Issue
Chris Ilitch, owner of the Detroit Tigers, has only one desire. To make money! He doesn’t care about tradition. If he did, he wouldn’t have changed the nationally recognized traditional uniforms of the Detroit Tigers. He agreed to sell out a piece of the uniform to Meijer. A corporation that also only wants to make more money. They claim they support tradition, but at the same time they paid to slap their name on the traditional uniform our Detroit Tigers.
This is only the beginning. If we don’t stand up now and demand ZERO advertising on Tiger’s uniforms, Chris will only continue to sell out more pieces of the uniform until they are walking billboards. All for his profit.
All Michiganders agree that we don’t want our professional sport team’s uniforms to be bastardized for a billionaire to make more money. Nor for a massive corporation to advertise their name which we already plaster everywhere in the ballpark. We want to watch baseball. And the players, want to play without having to think about a new additions their comfort zone.
We don’t want to see any advertising on our players. Unless Chris agrees to also stitch the Meijer logo on every single suit he wears. Why should the players have to mentally suffer for his gain? Baseball players are some of the most superstitious people in the world. And right when the Tigers are starting to play good, Chris makes the smart decision to change their uniforms?
This also proves why team owners shouldn’t be passed on through a family. The become removed from the reality and start to only think about the bottom line. That’s not what the fans want. It’s what a single man wants. That’s not right. The team owner should be a fan of the team and community, not a businessman. We don’t want a King George making the decisions, we want a George Washington.
Please sign and share this petition. Together we can stand against billionaires making stupid decisions.
