Stop Speeding in our Baltimore City Neighborhood with Speed Bumps!

Among the many issues we face daily as Baltimore City residents, speeding drivers has been and continues to be very problematic and we need intervention by way of a speed bump and speed bump sign in order to protect our children, the elderly, dogs and everyone in between.
After numerous applications were submitted to the Department of Transportation, our neighborhood, C.A.R.E. was approved for the Safe Streets program, which provides a Local Traffic Only sign and barricade that blocks traffic through the street. The sign was installed on the 200 block of N. Madeira St, which was welcomed in our alley street so that our neighbors could walk safely outside during the COVID-19 pandemic without having to worry about oncoming traffic. However, the sign has been met with vitriol from many drivers. On many occasions, drivers have moved the sign all to just go speeding down our street. Some of our neighbors have been threatened by drivers who are angered by having to take a detour due to the sign. Some drivers have even driven through the sign and knocked it down. I am personally very concerned for the safety of my two year old son and other children in the neighborhood who cannot even be taken for a walk around the block due to speeding drivers.
The most logical recourse is to have a speed bump and speed bump sign installed in our alley streets, which will deter drivers from speeding down the alley streets for good. We should not have to wait until an innocent bystander is hit and/or killed by a speeding vehicle before a speed bump is installed. Therefore, on behalf of the C.A.R.E. neighborhood, we respectfully request that a speed bump and speed bump sign be installed on the 200 block of N. Madeira St. Show your support by adding your electronic signature to this petition. Thank you!
