The DOD raised Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) rates in certain areas to offset rising costs to service members. Liberty Base Housing on MCB Quantico, Va has decided to keep the difference of the raise for those on base despite service members signing contracts under different circumstances while BAH rates were much lower.  This updated BAH is normally an increase of anywhere from $500-1,000 per month for each service member.  A fair practice utilized in similar situations involves cutting a check with all or a portion of the market value overage to the service member.

If things change service members will get the raise the DOD allocated for them, but if things stay the same, Base Housing will usurp the sizable difference in BAH.

With the current inflation rates and higher costs of living, the DOD increase was meant to offset these economic burdens.  If Base Housing keeps this direct deposited money to themselves, service members on base will not receive the intended relief.
