Ruston High is banning zipper binders, bags, purses, and lunchboxes from school, and they will have to be placed in lockers all day. This was explained to us as a problem with disobeying previous rules and a need for efficiency, but they were not enforced to begin with and as a result were allowed to spiral (large bags instead of the required size). It is also seen that teachers are being asked to run a weapons detector that has to filter a third of 1300 students, which is not efficient or convenient for anyone. A bag rule affects all students negatively: we cannot bring food to class, store our keys and phones, or carry books and writing tools. Overall, this new rule makes administration’s jobs easier, but makes student's lives much harder in a way that cannot compare. The solution is never to create new (fake) issues and rules to solve them. Help us try to change this rule today.
