Re: National Junior Ranking and Seeding National Junior Ranking and Seeding
I would like to request the following changes:
1. National Junior Ranking and Seeding National Junior Ranking and Seeding strictly to be based on National tournaments results.
Reasons:
- Badminton Ontario restricts U15 players to play U19 in Ontario Provincial tournaments while other provinces have no such restriction.
This give advantages to Non-Ontario player to play U19, and gain U19 points into their U15 ranking and seeding. Please find details example at the bottom of this page.
- Non-Ontario provincial tournaments is less competitive and lack of participants. See the following link for example which only has 3 participants in the U19 event.
https://badmintoncanada.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/event.aspx?id=32D06D60-0F16-4D4A-A014-776319BFAC0E&event=24
2. To remove the clauses 6.4 & 6.4.1 from Badminton Canada Regulation:
6.4 Seeding for Doubles & Mixed Doubles events will be determined by a team/pair’s total combined
points of each player’s (4) best tournament results, regardless of partner, at the events listed in section 6.2
6.4.1 Player A top 4 result points + Player B top 4 result points = Team Seeding Score
Details of the regulation can be found in https://badmintoncanada.visualclubweb.nl/file/923523/?dl=1
In addition, if the pair already has points/ranking, that pairs points/rank should be used for seeding instead of using clause 6.4 & 6.4.1 term. As this is not fair to committed teams/pairs who accumulate points from the beginning.
3. To show full fairness to all provinces players.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Example of U19 provincial points:
Non-Ontario U15 Player Gold medalist get 1275 points for U19 provincial tournament. This is more than twice of U15 National Gold medalist point (625).
Non-Ontario U15 Player Gold medalist get 1700 points for U19 provincial championships tournament. This is more than of U15 National Champ Gold medalist point (1375).
Just for the illustration, with the following scenarios (Ranking is based on best 4 tournament results):
Non-Ontario Player
U19 Provincial gold (3 x 1275)
U19 Provincial Champ gold (1 x 1700)
Total points: 5525
However, for Ontario player.
U17 Provincial gold (3 x 637)
U17 Provincial Champ gold (1 x 850)
Total points: 2761
U15 National Jr Elite gold (3 x 625)
U15 National Champ gold (1 x 1375)
Total points: 3250
U17 National Jr Elite gold (4 x 1250)
Total points: 5000
Note: There is restriction of U15 Ontario players are prohibited from playing any U19 provincial tournaments.
Based on the above scenarios, even for Ontario U15 player won 4 golds in U17 National Tournaments (5000) still unable to beat Non-Ontario player's ranking who only play Provincials tournament (5525).
Therefore, the only way for Ontario U15 player to beat Non-Ontario player's ranking who only playing provincial is by winning the U19 National tournaments or win the U17 National Championship.
This will make Non-Ontario player advantages of stay at National Rank #1 and Seed #1 without even performing/play at National level tournament.
