Backdate maternity exemption certificates to the date in which your pregnancy is confirmed

Backdate maternity exemption certificates to the date in which your pregnancy is confirmed
The Issue
My situation explained in the above article ^
Not alot of people have knowledge or enough information on this subject so please read and share with others as it may affect you or someone you know one day and this is something I am trying my hardest to prevent.
On May 17th 2024 I received a letter in the post from “The NHS business authority” this letter was regarding a penalty charge notice about an NHS prescription charge. It states because I do not have a valid maternity exemption certificate that I owe the NHS money to pay for the countless prescriptions that I had following the birth of my daughter. This letter quite rightly shocked me as I had been advised by my midwife that I am entitled to free prescriptions due to being pregnant and this should be up until my daughter is one years old (my daughter is currently 8 months old).
So I did some research to find that last year approximately 38,191 letters were sent out questioning the eligibility of women who claimed they were maternity exempt. More than 80% of those women received a penalty charge notice because a maternity exemption certificate was not produced which is done by a healthcare worker or midwife. Having got back in touch with my midwife who had not requested this certificate, I asked her to order me one. She went on to order me one in which the start date on the certificate is backdated to only a month.
Following the birth of my daughter I had a lot of complications followed by three consecutive stays in the hospital this of course led to me requiring numerous antibiotics. Because of this I now owe the NHS alot of money as do a lot of mothers in my situation as due to my research I have found this is a very common occurrence. So my question is why is it that the maternity exemption certificate is only backdated by one month especially since I was confirmed pregnant by my midwife back in February of last year? and also this is an error made by my midwife. Because of this, the prescriptions during my pregnancy with my daughter and following the birth of my daughter are now costing me money aswell as a possible penalty charge notice. This is something that needs changing and fast.
Please sign this petition so that this situation won't happen again to another mother and that if this situation did happen then atleast it could be rectified by backdating the maternity exemption certificate to the date in which your pregnancy is confirmed by your midwife/GP.
