The Issue

A proposed 99 unit apartment development threatens our beloved neighborhood. This is not just about opposing change; it's about preserving the qualities that make our community special.

Many of us chose this area for its quiet streets, the safety it offers for our children, and the stunning natural environment that surrounds us. The combination of heavy construction, high density housing in a single family residential neighborhood, poorly designed single entrance/ exit of proposed development and significantly increased traffic through our neighborhood streets truly disrupts the peace that we cherish here.

Beyond personal discomfort, the proposed development would require a rezoning of the area, a conditional use permit, and annexation into the city. All of these requested changes prove the proposed development is not the right fit for the neighborhood. This alarming expansion would tax our already strapped public services, including our fire and police departments. Our schools are at capacity, and the addition of such a large influx of residents would inevitably strain resources further.

Additionally, our neighborhood’s infrastructure is not designed to support such dramatic growth. Taxpayers would bear the burden of expensive infrastructure installation, as this was confirmed not to be in place by a city worker on July 8, 2025. Meanwhile, the construction would destabilize Ashley Creek's already fragile banks, posing a real risk given the documented history with landslides on Rimrock Ct., a street that would border the proposed apartment complex.

Equally disturbing is the potential environmental impact. The development site includes precious wetland habitat, home to local wildlife. Building here jeopardizes these ecosystems, displacing animals and disrupting the natural balance. A section of the marshy land is also marked “unbuildable” on the Cadastral website, but has been dubbed as a “green space” in the apartment plans. The land is historically known to be a place where tractors get stuck and kids return home covered in mud. Surrounding homes have been plagued by flooding, settling, and sinking. This undeveloped parcel is perfect for the eagles, pheasants, ducks, deer, and occasional bear but not for 99 apartment units.

This development also threatens our financial security. Many of us rely on the equity in our homes as a nest egg, and the influx of a large apartment complex risks decreasing property values. The views of the mountains that we treasure could be blocked, diminishing the very essence of why many of us moved here.

For the sake of our families, wildlife, and the future viability of our neighborhood, we must stand against this proposal. Sign this petition to urge Kalispell city officials to reject the rezoning and development plans, preserving the quality of life and environment that makes our community unique.
