Baby Priya's Petition now has over 10,000 signatures.

Earlier this week a number of media outlets contacted us. We expect articles to be published shortly. 

Priya's mum is still reading every single one of your comments. The grief of losing a baby is overwhelming, and the public comments are heartening. She has picked one recent comment that meant a lot to her.

"The act of giving birth is the reason women are entitled to maternity leave. The tragic loss of the baby’s life does not alter that fact. Where has compassion and understanding of women’s health gone? Women need time for many things, grief, bodily changes, alteration of one’s own expectations. Give the woman a fair go."

We have discovered that Labor, when in opposition, moved a bill to address this issue - the Fair Work Amendment (Improving Paid Parental Leave for Parents of Stillborn Babies) Bill. It got to a second reading in the Senate in August of 2021, but then did not proceed. We have made an enquiry with a politician involved to find out why, and if the bill could be re-introduced. We are waiting for a response.

Please keep sharing the petition as every signature can help towards getting that bill back into Parliament.

There were many tragic stories that led to the issue being discussed in Parliament, if the bill had have succeeded then we wouldn't have to have gone through this. We wouldn't have other parents tell us stories in the comments like "I watched my daughter die in my arms after 7 days, I was expected to be back at work after 2 weeks."

No parent should ever have to go through this again.
