Sidh K. started this petition to B. S. Yediyurappa (Chief Minister of Karnataka) and

Optical fibre cables dangling over electric poles, trees, from one building to another and lying on footpaths is a common sight all over the city. Even TenderSure roads, which have the provision to accommodate these cables underground, are not free from the menace of overhead cables.

These cables pose a danger to pedestrians and sometime even prove to be a death trap for motorists. Some time ago, once such dangling cable led to the death of a motorist on Double Road.

Although the BBMP and BESCOM together have promised respite for years now, in reality there isn't much actually being done about them. There seems to be a total sense of disregard for the common citizens and a complete lack of apathy from the government as well as internet enterprises. Everyday, pedestrians and motorists live in the constant fear of being one trip away from a tragic accident.

While numerous policies have been rolled out to restrict the laying of such cables, we only see new ones being added everyday. And according to BBMP's latest statement on this issue, "The BBMP will be treating all over-the-ground cables as unauthorized, though the industry had obtained permissions and had originally laid them underground,"

"The service providers were constrained to draw cables overhead with permission from the Palike as and when they were unintentionally cut or removed during civilworks carried out by BBMP, BWSSB and Bescom" they added.

In the light of this, the government must take action to remove all illegal cables immediately and with utmost urgency. Otherwise these are accidents just waiting to happen.

Hence, I petition the Chief Minister of Karnataka B. S. Yediyurappa, the BBMP Mayor of Bangalore Gangambike Mallikarjun, the BBMP Deputy Mayor Bhadre Gowda, the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) to the Government for the Urban Development Department Bengaluru Mahendra Jain, the BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad and the director general of Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) Rajan S. Mathews.

I urge you to sign this petition, in hope of action being taken against those who are responsible for the creation of this menace and those who have gotten away with killing and injuring so many people.
