Award Caio Benicio for His Heroic Act in Dublin's Parnell Street Attack

The Issue

Like many others across Ireland, the attacks committed on Parnell Square in Dublin on the 23rd of November left me heartbroken. The appalling and disgusting bigotry, racism, and xenophobia that followed against immigrants and foreign nationals was even more distressing. However, amidst this chaos emerged a hero - Caio Benicio.

Caio is a Brazilian immigrant who demonstrated extraordinary bravery by intervening to stop the attacker to try to save a young girl's life. His actions are a testament to the incredible contributions that foreign nationals make to our society every day. Yet, his heroism remains unrecognized officially.

Dublin is home to over 120 nationalities (Central Statistics Office Ireland), all contributing significantly towards its cultural diversity and economic growth. Recognizing Caio’s bravery would send out a strong message of appreciation for their contributions while taking a stand against xenophobia.

We appeal to the Lord Mayor of Dublin to present Caio Benicio with an award from the city of Dublin as recognition for his heroic act during such tragic circumstances. This gesture will not only honor him but also serve as an affirmation that we value all members of our community regardless of their origin.

Please sign this petition urging the Lord Mayor to recognize Caio's courage and contribution towards Dublin.
