Stepbacks are an integral part of romance novels and the romance community.

In recent months we have noticed less and less stepbacks in our romance novels. As readers and members of this community, it's been a scary time for us with the impending loss of one of the most magical aspects of romance.

I have received so many messages and many comments from fellow readers expressing their feelings on this. I've noticed many of you, including myself, are quite upset that stepbacks may completely phase out. But I've also encountered so much surprise from readers as well. Stepbacks are so well-loved and cherished by readers that this has been a shock to us, albeit it's been happening slowly. But it remains unfathomable that publishers haven't recognized our desire for and love for these works of art and this tradition in romance to continue. 

If you do not know what a stepback is, to state it simply, it is an additional piece of art behind the cover. Usually of the main characters together in an embrace of some sort. They also have been featured on the backs of books in the past. They are a main staple in romance novels but some other genres include them as well. (Take V.C. Andrew's books for an example.)

I've had so many comments from readers informing me that they would be more than happy to pay more for books with stepbacks. To us, and to the community, this is important. This is our passion and it's such a special part of the community and a magical addition to our beloved books. 

If you're a reader of romance, please sign this petition to keep stepbacks in our novels. And share as often as possible, to all platforms your use. Tag friends, send messages, etc. Whatever you can do!
