Build a community skate park to commemorate Avery Michael Rice

The Issue

Our mission is to build a local community skate park in the Kissimmee / Poinciana area to commemorate Avery Michael Rice.

Avery Rice was found dead at the front lawn of his parents’ home in Kissimmee, FL on January 13, 2019, he was 23.  The autopsy linked cause of death to pulmonary embolism and edema most probably due to drug related consumption.  Research has proven that providing communities with recreations centers and parks, including skate parks can keep our youth from elicit activities, deter them from bad influences like drugs and alcohol, and invite them to build a strong sense of community.  Avery may have made different choices if he were given the opportunity to express himself with what he loved most, skateboarding.

We are petitioning to show the community’s support and to prove that there is a genuine need for a local concrete skate park in Kissimmee / Poinciana area. The new skate park will be a free-to-use, safe, inclusive and family oriented sports facility for users of all ages. It will be professionally designed and constructed by a company selected by Avery Rice Memorial Foundation Inc. with design input from local skate park users. Most of Avery's friendships that he made throughout the years were because of skateboarding, so we want to provide others the same opportunity to build a friendship that could possibly last a lifetime.

Some health benefits of skateboarding include:

*** Provides flexibility and
*** Offers full body workout
*** Stress Relief
*** Teaches precision
*** Improves coordination
*** Burn calories
*** Teaches endurance, consequences, practice, and patience
