The Issue

There was a shooting on my base that left five service members injured. If a good guy with a gun was there, the shooting would’ve been stopped before anyone was injured. This tragic event highlights a significant gap in security measures affecting the safety of service members on military bases across the nation.

In many situations, when seconds count, a rapid response is essential to mitigate potential threats. Allowing service members to carry their personal firearms could bridge this critical gap in our defense. These are individuals who have undergone extensive training in handling firearms safely and responsibly. With such training, they are ideally positioned to respond swiftly and effectively in situations where every moment counts.

Statistics have shown that military sites are frequently targeted by individuals intending to inflict harm. With over 1.3 million active-duty service members across hundreds of bases, the potential for incidents cannot be ignored. Empowering trained personnel on the ground to act decisively can significantly decrease response times and, ultimately, save lives.

Implementing this policy through an executive order would bolster the existing security framework. It would provide peace of mind not only to those who serve but also to their families, who deserve reassurance that comprehensive measures are in place to protect those who protect our nation.

It's time to ensure that our cherished service members have every necessary tool at their disposal to safeguard themselves and their comrades. Urging the President of the United States to take decisive action and sign an executive order that permits them to carry personal firearms on base is a step towards securing our military installations.

Please join the call to action and sign this petition to support the safety and security of our service members.
