Australian Islamic College Henelybrook: CHANGE IN UNIFORM FOR FEMALE STUDENTS
Australian Islamic College Henelybrook: CHANGE IN UNIFORM FOR FEMALE STUDENTS
The issue
At Australian Islamic college henelybrook, female students are facing a massive dilemma regarding uniform and the comfort of our female students.
we request at compete change in uniform, or permission to atleast wear cotton shirts in the colours navy or black (decided on the discretion of the school)
the problems with the current shirt?
girls often avoid wearing the light blue shirt as its polyester and viscose composition makes it very unbreathable and uncomfortable. Most girls sweat, which shows clearly through the light colour and composition of the shirt, wearing padding or anything to prevent this issue will just make it even hotter and more uncomfortable.
as we try to avoid the sweating issue, girls opt to wear the sweater and jacket to feel more comfortable while still remaining modest. This is completely fine, but considering we are expecting a big heat phenomenon this year- these clothes that are opt for will become hazardous for the health of the students.
this also causes difficulty focusing due to the heat, everyone is too busy trying to remain cool, and due to that fact participation, marks, everything in and outside class will decline. This won’t only negatively effect the students, but staff and the way people view the school.
allowing female students to wear the cotton shirts:
makes the heat more bearable, allowing students to focus on their studies, can hide any sweat stains and easier for girls with sensitive skin.
we could act, and do something similar to the kewdale campus; where the students are allowed to wear navy blue shirts instead of the blouse.
this change doesn’t have to be for the whole year, it could be a part of a summer uniform, just to make it easier to get through the heat of the summer (which is terrible in Australia)
If this school really considered the health and wellbeing of their students, then they will make the change.
if it is a matter of ‘immodesty’ and some families may not agree, then that is their personal choice. They do not have to wear the shirt, this could atleast be an option to help students push through the heat.
