Let Anne Claire reunite with her family in Australia before all flights are cancelled

The issue

Anne Claire is a loving, caring mother and wife who is stuck in The Netherlands after making an emergency visit to her sister who is terminally-ill with cancer in Amsterdam.

During her short trip, Australia’s COVID-19 border restrictions were implemented, meaning only the immediate family of those with Australian residency or citizenship could enter the country.

Anne Claire, who has a husband and two young sons – 9 and 8 -- in Australia, has applied for an exemption to the restrictions, but so far there has been no response from the Department of Home Affairs.

This is an absurd situation as for all intents and purposes Anne Claire and her family are Australians.  They have been in Sydney since 2015 and both boys are in school with their parents working and paying taxes.  Despite Anne Claire's consistent contribution to the community around her and this country in general, the fact that she is Dutch and her husband is a New Zealand citizen mean she is being treated as an outsider.

For being a loving sister, Anne Claire is now being penalized and denied the opportunity to reunite with her family.
