Australian Paid Parental Leave eligibility is now affected by CoVid 19
The Issue
Pregnant mothers who's employment has been affected by the CoVid-19 in Australian are currently left in limbo.
We need clarification from the Federal Government on what measures or changes are being put in place for flexibility around the working conditions (work test) before Covid-19 affected employment.
Under NORMAL circumstances strict conditions were in place to ensure expecting mothers work for certain timeframes "work test" up until the birth of their baby. Many expecting mothers work extremely hard to meet these strict criteria and now have been put out of work due to CoVid - 19 They will now fail these timeframes of employment. Example. Mothers who are due in 4 months will fail test and not be paid PPL, due to being "unemployed" for over the limit gap or not working enough in the 10 months before birth.
"To get Parental Leave Pay you need to have worked for both:
10 of the 13 months before the birth or adoption of your child
a minimum of 330 hours, around 1 day a week, in that 10 month period.
Keep in mind, we count 10 months as 295 days and 13 months as 392 days.T
he gap you’re allowed between each work day in this period depends on your child’s date of birth or adoption. If your child’s birth or adoption is:
before 1 January 2020, you can’t have more than an 8 week gap
on or after 1 January 2020, you can’t have more than a 12 week gap...."
We need answers as to how we can still be eligible for PPL when affected by CoVd-19. The additional stress under already stressful circumstances is not healthy.
Please share and also if you are affected by this please email your federal member for answers
