The temporary ban on travel from India begins on Monday. It applies to any travellers who have visited India within 14 days of their intended arrival date in Australia. Breaches of the travel ban could lead to up to five years' imprisonment.

This is an unfortunate step being taken that will have massive adverse impact on Australians who are trapped in India. Are we abandoning our own people, and how can we do that? While we understand the logic behind the flight bans and urgency to protect our border, we need to be compassionate and empathetic to our own citizens who are in dire trouble. 

We urge the federal government of Australia to reconsider this decision and explore alternative options. This is going to shatter the already distressed Indian diaspora in all over Australia. We must accelerate the process to expand our quarantine facility, and drive towards the real solution.
