Each year, the Australian taxpayer outlays $1 billion to fund the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in the hope that it provides vital information services especially for remote and regional Australians.

In the past 3 months, the ABC have spent more than $1 million of Australian taxpayer dollars on the legal costs of investigative reporter Louise Milligan for making defamatory tweets.

The Australian public should NOT have to pay millions of dollars in legal fees for rogue journalists who fail to conduct themselves under the most basic journalistic principles.

In the midst of a global pandemic when people are doing it tough, we must take a stand and fight for transparency, accountability and fiscal responsibility.

For the sake of Australia, we are calling on ABC CEO David Anderson to sack investigative reporter Louise Milligan and commit to ensuring that the public broadcaster doesn't foot the bill for future defamatory comments made by staff in their own private lives.
