Did you know that Australia currently does not have a celebratory month to acknowledge Asian and Pacific Islanders?

The month of May is recognized as Asian Pacific Heritage Month mostly across America as a way to recognize and celebrate Asian and pacific islander persons and their contribution to the history of America. Australia does not currently have an Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month although in the 2021 census, approximately eighteen percent of the population identified as having Asian or pacific islander ancestry. Despite this large amount of Asian and Pacific Islander population, Australia still does not have a cultural holiday that aims to solely acknowledge the heritage and contributions of Asian and Pacific Islander culture and the impacts these cultures have had on Australia as a country. 

We are a group of three year 12 high school students aiming to create more awareness around this issue and we need your help! If you believe in creating more social awareness around this issue we would love your signature as our overall goal is to bring this petition to higher ups to further make our dream come true!
