Australia Should Not Join Trump’s “Board of Peace”

Australia Should Not Join Trump’s “Board of Peace”
The issue
We call on the Australian Government to publicly reject and refuse any involvement in Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” Charter or any associated initiative.
In a time of growing global instability, peace and international cooperation depend on credible, inclusive, and rules-based institutions, not ad hoc political initiatives tied to any one leader or government.
Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” charter has raised concerns internationally, with experts and diplomats warning it could undermine existing multilateral institutions, including the United Nations, and weaken international law and established systems of cooperation.
Australia has now been invited to participate in this initiative.
As a nation with a long-standing commitment to multilateralism, the rules-based international order, and an independent foreign policy, Australia should politely but firmly decline to participate.
Peace processes must be:
- Inclusive
- Transparent
- Grounded in international law
- Not driven by domestic politics or personal agendas
There are growing concerns that this proposed charter does not meet those standards.
Australia should not lend legitimacy to any framework that risks:
- Undermining existing international institutions
- Politicising peace and reconstruction efforts
- Or weakening the global rules-based system we rely on for stability and security
We call on the Australian Government to:
- Publicly confirm it will not participate in or endorse the “Board of Peace” charter
- Reaffirm its commitment to multilateral, rules-based international institutions
- Maintain an independent and principled foreign policy in Australia’s national interest
This is not an anti-American position. It is pro-democracy, pro-institutions, and in favour of credible diplomacy.
Your voice matters in affirming Australia's position as a leader in promoting transparency and inclusivity in global peace initiatives. Please sign and share this petition today!
