Australia Needs a Bill of Rights

The issue

Every other major democracy protects its citizens with a Bill of Rights.
Australia does not.

Since Federation in 1901, our Constitution has left us with almost no protection for basic human rights.

Because we have no Bill of Rights, Parliament has almost unlimited power. Politicians can pass almost any law they want, and there is nothing in the Constitution strong enough to stop them.

They can override both:

•  Hundreds of years of common law protections simply by passing a new Statute Law, and

•  The few limited rights actually written in the Constitution.

We’re already seeing what that looks like:

•  The South Australian Emergency Law lets authorities break into your home, seize your water, destroy your property, and kill your animals — with almost no compensation.

•  Parents can be jailed for up to 2 years just for speaking publicly about their own child being questioned by police.

•  Digital ID is being rolled out across more services, raising serious privacy concerns.

•  New laws are restricting protests and expanding “hate speech” offences.

This is what happens when politicians face no real limits.

We need a Constitutional Bill of Rights — real, enforceable protections that cannot be easily overridden by a simple vote in Parliament.

If you believe Australians deserve actual rights, sign this petition.
