Petition updateSupport Short Term Regulations That WorkUrgent! City Council Meeting Today Jan 28 - Future of Austin STRs Will Be Decided Today
Austin Rental Alliance
Jan 28, 2016
We need your help. Please make it to the city council meeting today Jan 28th. If Short Term Rental (STR) supporters don't show up and speak in support of STRs, there's a good chance that STRs will no longer be legal in Austin after today. These new rules will impact ALL STRs in Austin. Please RSVP at the link below so we can quickly alert you of any time change of when the STR issue is going to come up during the meeting today. Everything will be decided today at this city council meeting, so don't let a minority of people in Austin determine the outcome - they are pushing hard to get their members to show up to ban STRs. RSVP Here For Time Updates: https://www.facebook.com/events/782366061891134/ Jan 28th (Today) Estimated Time: 7 PM Austin City Hall 301 W. 2nd St. Austin, TX 78701 Parking below City Hall is free with validation of your parking ticket. The entrance to the City Hall parking garage is located on the Guadalupe Street side of City Hall. STR hosts and supporters will be gathered in the lobby. Look for light blue stickers with "Protect Home Sharing" on the front of them. We will also have pro-home sharing signs so that you can easily spot us. Some items being discussed include: 1) Ban on all existing Type 2 Short Term Rentals in 5 years 2) Gives code enforcement power to enter your home at any time without reason or cause, even if not being used as a short term rental at the time. 3) Mandatory inspections every 3 years 4) Gives code enforcement the authority to revoke or deny you a license for almost any reason they want, even on things that don't have anything to do with short term rentals 5) Gives code enforcement the power to inspect your home and make you come up to code with what they deem necessary, which could cost you thousands of dollars to comply with 6) Requires you to provide "any other information requested by the director" to keep your license, which could be a way to deny your license or renewal for any reason. 7) Requires you to keep a guest registry that the city can access at any time 8) Possible increased licensing fees 9) Reduced occupancy limits for all rentals. If renting for one time of the year during festivals, you would not be allowed to have friends of family over during the rest of the year or you would be violating the new occupancy requirements that say you can't have more than 8 people total at your home or outside at any one time. 10) Requiring occupancy by property instead of per license, which would ban any duplex, two family home on one lot, or homeowners that have a garage apartment they rent (or lots with more than 2 units) from being short term rentals. Occupancy would be limited to 8 people total per property, so you will be limited to the number of family that can live in your main home if you want to rent your garage apartment as an STR. 11) Banning Type 2 STRs from being within 1,000 feet from each other 12) Possibly requiring a conditional use permit for STRs, which can cost thousands of dollars and take years to get (not listed in changes, but could be brought back up)
