RAISE THE TIPPED MINIMUM WAGE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS

RAISE THE TIPPED MINIMUM WAGE IN AUSTIN, TEXAS
The Issue
Did you know that tipped workers in Austin, Texas are not guaranteed the federal minimum wage of $7.25/hour paid by their employer?
That’s right, Texas is one of only 16 states that allow employers to pay their tipped employees just $2.13 per hour under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Doesn’t seem very FAIR, right!?
This means that your servers and bartenders are relying solely on your tips to earn a living for themselves and their families. To make things worse, this system often results in huge tax liabilities with $0.00 (or even negative) paychecks as a result.
The good news is that several cities, from Minneapolis, MN to Birmingham, AL have enacted local ordinances to raise the minimum wage by bringing the issue to the voters. We believe that the people of Austin want the folks pouring their drinks and serving their food to make a fair wage.Sign the petition to raise the “tipped” minimum wage in Austin to $7.25 per hour (the federal minimum wage), and to ensure that tipped workers retain the tips earned on their shift, rather than allowing tips to be distributed at the discretion of the employer. Our goal is to collect as many signatures as possible and partner with our more forward thinking city council members to bring a ballot measure to an upcoming election to let the voters decide!
