This petition is against the proposed Helensville solar farm. 

Located at 23 Rogan Avenue, Helensville

Applying for a 35-year consent Jan 2022

1. 82,000 panels across 116 hectares (286 acres) on prime farming land

2. 7 substations raised above flood level with open containment tanks build underneath for transformer oil or battery acid catchment – land susceptible to flooding

3. Perimeter plantings where required to block out your existing views especially low-lying dwellings estimate 5-7 years growth to full maturity

4. Security fence whole site encased in 2.5-meter timber post deer fence

5. Severe visual impact of the existing views from Helensville upper township and surroundings hills to the east and west.  encroaching on private real estate values

6. Effects on the rural environment, river and wildlife, as location is largely encased by the Kaipara River

7. Company behind application HES Aotearoa Limited whose parent company is not situated in NZ.  Their application repeats how it will benefit Auckland numerous times, not Helensville.

We are not against solar power stations, it’s the location in a prominent valley overlooked by the adjacent township that is the question.
