Pohutukawa of Margan Ave

Sep 9, 2016
The 7th of September Whau Town Centre Development Working Party was cancelled by the Auckland Council Development Project Office. At this meeting discussions should have taken place between members of the Whau Local Board and Auckland Council planners with regard to roading options through Margan Reserve as proposed by the developer in the current masterplan. The existence of this masterplan was made known to board members at the previous meeting but its details were not shared with them. The reason given for the recent cancellation was that no resource consent has yet been lodged with Council for roads through the reserve.
This contradicts a statement made by P. Beckerleg ( former DPO ):
“The expectation will be as part of the pre application process and discussions, if it is the developer’s intention to advance a scheme that impacts on Margan Reserve, then at that time the developer will be requested to make contact with Parks staff who would at that time seek the views of the Board. The expectation being that the Board’s view would inform the consent application. "
And it contradicts a statement made by B. Potter ( Director Infrastructure and Environmental Services) :
".. it was agreed that when the developer has a plan ready to discuss that the local board would be involved in that discussion."
We are disappointed that the views and preferences of the local board, as a stakeholder, are still not being considered in the pre-application discussions as promised.
