This petition is to support the AUB Part-Time Faculty Alliance (AUB PARTA) in its protest against the drastic devaluation of the part-time instructors‘ wages, which made their work conditions untenable.

They have been working, with dedication, year in and year out, under less than favorable conditions, which include but are not limited to, the lack of job stability, institutional support, professional development, and social benefits. 

Meanwhile, they make up almost a quarter of all teaching staff and teach a significant number of courses across faculties, including a high concentration of core curriculum courses, working long and hard alongside their esteemed full-time colleagues in providing the course requirements that students need to graduate. Yet the central administration excluded them from the initial fresh US Dollar financial support packages that it provided professorial and full-time faculty, thereby exploiting their labor as it delegates their problem and delays its solution.

Since July 2020, they have been lobbying the administration for fair remuneration, proposing as a first step to receive a financial support package of 30% of their salaries in fresh US Dollars, in keeping with the financial support packages offered to professorial and full-time faculty. Till today, six months on, their demands have yet to receive a formal response with any reasonable and fair proposal.

We students stand in solidarity with PARTA and fully support its action. Therefore we ask that the central administration address their needs as equal employees of the university and grant them their just demands.
