Bandit CutbushQLD, Australia

I have been advised tonight that someone called the RSPCA and they stated “The Cutbush family were angry and rude at Dakabin”. Well, we are more than angry. On 14 October Clair McCarthy, Dakabin Animal Care Manager blocked an agreed visit and exercise for the family with Bandit after we had driven 1 ½ hours. She also "forgot" to vaccinate him 4 days prior! Claire when asked, confirmed she has no animal behaviour qualifications along with the “animal carer” Dale…no qualifications!!! Dale said he was a former Volunteer and is obviously trying to assist with no training and an excuse for a beard that would scare any pet!! One of the key things when Bandit was at RSPCA Dakabin for 2 weeks was that they failed to exercise him or allow us to exercise him. They refused to allow Sarah in with him and I had to was him under her direction behind the prison mesh. The RSPCA kept him in a very hostile environment at their “super pound” on Goodwin Road. Amazingly when you arrive (it took us 1 ½ hours from Tamborine) they demand ID and then photocopy it and keep it…even from my 15-year-old. Its set up like a prison (albeit a little ordinary after my time in senior roles with QLD Corrective Services & NZ Dept Of Corrections). They have mini watchtowers, guards and lots of security. It’s obvious that they don’t want to damage the Councils (who are their revenue source) “proposed dangerous” declarations so they basically breach the Animal Protection Act 2001 at every turn. The QLD case law on this co-opting of the RSPCA by Councils is encouraging and it appears that QCAT is aware of this as per below. QLD Civil & Administrative Tribunal – Matter: Bradshaw v Moreton Bay Regional Council [2017] QCAT 281 56. [57] The report also identified some signs of possible aggression towards strangers and other dogs while housed at the Dakabin facility. I do not give this significant weight. The circumstances in which Hank has been held at the facility are unusual and likely to have impacted upon his behaviour. They do not necessarily give an accurate indication of his likely behaviour in his usual environment. Further, there is no evidence that the officer giving the report, although no doubt experienced with dogs, is qualified as an expert in animal behaviour. During Bandits time at Dakabin (which we were told by the RSPCA was actually Moreton Bay Regional Council) he was kept in a very small area next to approximately 50 other very big dogs in his section.Rotweillers etc. The most disgraceful thing was that, on the one time on 11 October 2017 when they let me exercise him for 10 minutes I found that the very small (40ft x 40ft yard) was next to the VERY dangerous dogs like out of a Disney movie! So they wouldn’t let me have him off leash and he was absolutely terrified. Bandit has never left our 11 acres and after being shipped to the Scenic Rim Regional Council at Beaudesert torture centre was then shipped (and poled) to Dakabin. A terrible introduction to the world of the RSPCA revenue raising network.
