The Sausalito City Council voted unanimously this week to support the community-driven Amazon to Reuse Boxes Initiative.

The Amazon Initiative asks Amazon to run a pilot Pick up Program in Marin County in which delivery trucks pick up Amazon boxes and plastic mailers on subsequent deliveries and take them back to Amazon warehouses for reuse.

Sausalito adds its support to that of numerous other cities and towns in Marin County, including Larkspur, Ross, San Anselmo, Belvedere, San Rafael, Mill Valley, Fairfax, Novato, and Muir Beach.

Sausalito Mayor Susan Cleveland-Knowles is posting a letter to the Amazon Board of Directors asking for an Amazon take back program in Marin County as a way to eliminate single-use packing materials and achieve zero waste goals.

The Marin Board of Supervisors, and the cities of Mill Valley, Novato, and San Rafael have all written letters to Jeff Bezos, CEO of Amazon, and await an answer.

Meanwhile, signatures on the Amazon to Reuse Boxes Petition are nearing the targeted goal of 10,000. Once this goal is reached, a request from the Residents of Marin will go to Jeff Bezos paired with a compelling economical and environmental case for action.
