End Atlanta's Unfair Solid Waste Fees

The Issue

In 2019, the City of Atlanta began assessments of new and unfair garbage fees from some 53,000+ multifamily- and commercial properties. The fees assessed since then have mounted to $84M. The fees are wrong from all sides!

What's Wrong? 1) Atlanta law prohibits the City from supplying garbage services to 53.000+ affected multi-family- and commercial properties. Atlanta also requires these properties to hire private service providers for garbage collection. Regardless, in 2018, the Atlanta City Council authorized the City to collect a new annual garbage fee from condos and other multi-family properties. (Make sense? They've collected our $84M.)

2) Atlanta's Charter prohibits the City from charging "service fees" for common-good services. Thus, the 2018 fee was unauthorized from its outset. Property owners  must pay--or else the City could seize the properties. (They collected $84M from us anyway!)

3) Through a mechanism the City calls frontage fees, Atlanta bills 53,000+ property owners--all across the city--for services the City simply doesn't provide. The City is WRONG to charge for services without supplying the services! (These tactics have been good to the City. They have our $84M.)

We Ask Atlanta City Council to Repeal These "Money For Nothing" Waste Fees! This petition comes to you from an informal group of Atlanta condo owners, boards, and associations working together as the Atlanta Solid Waste Coalition. We’ve paid more than our share of the $84M in solid waste fees.

Atlanta’s City Council created these fees. After three years of public comment and even lawsuits, City Council has become aware that the ordinance is flawed and unfair. City Council has authority and responsibility to REPEAL the fees.
