Make ASU's Meal Exchange Unrestricted!!!!

The Issue

At Arizona State University, there are an abundance of dining options, one option being the P.O.D markets. As a busy college student, often, time is of the essence, thus the appeal of the POD market is the 'grab-n-go' way in which it operates. Being able to quickly run in, grab a satisfactory meal, and then continuing about ones day saves valuable time.

Beyond this, the dining halls often close much earlier than the POD, so, if one is hungry at a later time, the POD is considered to be the most convenient option. Beyond this convenience, many college students do not have disposable money to spend. Therefore, the meal exchange system became essential to many students. Previously, one was able to use a meal exchange if the total of their transaction was below ten dollars. As of recently, however, this system underwent drastic changes that compromised the initial appeal.

As of now, the meal exchange only covers one entree, one side, and one drink. However, the way that the categories are dictated as to what is an entree, side, or drink has caused not only mass confusion but also unrest. In tandem, this abrupt, drastic change became a reality nearly in the middle of the semester, at a time when most students had become accustomed to a certain routine, but this change also had been made with a complete lack of student representation. In this way, student's meals have become restricted unless they are able to expend money that they may not have. Even more so, these guidelines have remarkably restricted food options that are eligible for this exchange, and these restrictions have proven to be less than desirable for the average college student, especially students who may have a dietary restriction.

Through this petition, the hope is to persuade ASU Dining to abandon this change and reinstate the previous guidelines, those being if a purchase of food items comes to a total of less than ten dollars, one should be able to use a meal exchange.
