End Rattlesnake Roundups

End Rattlesnake Roundups
The Issue
Rattlesnake roundups are gatherings that happen yearly where people from all over the world pay to watch hundreds of thousands of snakes suffer and die. The roundups are completely inhumane and need to be shut down. Snakes are gathered by paid wranglers and thrown into pits to await their deaths. The roundups defend themselves by saying that they are “controlling the population”, but rattlesnakes are actually not overpopulated anywhere in the world. Rattlesnakes eat small rodents which helps to prevent rodent-borne diseases and overpopulation of rodents. Rattlesnakes also serve as essential food items for owls, foxes, coyotes, and others. Most people also seem to think that rattlesnakes are threatening to livestock and people; however, rattlesnakes only kill about five people every year in America. Most of these fatalities were caused by people trying to “exterminate” the snakes or accidentally stumbling upon an unaware rattler. Zero reports have been filed for livestock deaths caused by rattlesnakes in the past couple of decades. Most livestock that are bitten recover without any treatment. These snakes get a bad reputation for being “killers” when in actuality, humans are the ones doing the killing.
