Ask YouTube to Protect Vulnerable People in Paranormal Investigation Videos
Imagine being frightened by unexplained events in your own home.

You invite a paranormal investigator or medium into your home because you are scared and looking for answers.

Then you, your partner, or even your child is told:

“You have a demonic attachment.”

“Your child is possessed.”

“Something evil has followed you home.”

“You are cursed.”

Claims like these can be extremely frightening, especially when they are presented as facts rather than as personal beliefs or paranormal interpretations.

The person making these claims may have no idea whether the family member they are speaking to has anxiety, OCD, PTSD, trauma-related difficulties, or another psychological vulnerability.

Yet that person's fear may then become part of a YouTube video, dramatic thumbnail or title — and potentially be used to generate views, engagement and advertising revenue.

This petition is NOT asking YouTube to ban paranormal content
We are not trying to ban:

Ghost hunting
Paranormal investigations
Mediums
Spiritual or religious beliefs
Supernatural entertainment
People talking about paranormal experiences
People should remain free to investigate and discuss paranormal phenomena.

This petition is about safeguarding the real people who appear in these videos.

What we are asking YouTube to change
We are asking YouTube to introduce a worldwide safeguarding policy for paranormal and supernatural content involving real members of the public.

1. Protect frightened and vulnerable participants
Creators should not present unverified claims of possession, demonic attachment, curses or supernatural danger as facts to frightened or vulnerable individuals where doing so could reasonably cause serious psychological distress.

There is a major difference between saying:

“I personally feel there may be something here.”

and telling somebody:

“A demon is attached to you.”

2. Give children stronger protection
Children should receive particular protection from being told, or publicly portrayed as being:

Possessed
Demonically attached
Cursed
Targeted by an evil entity
In supernatural danger
Children should never become frightening paranormal entertainment for clicks and views.

3. Clearly separate belief from fact
Paranormal investigators should remain free to express their beliefs and interpretations.

But supernatural conclusions should be clearly presented as beliefs, theories or opinions, rather than verified diagnoses or facts.

4. Stop the exploitation of serious distress
If a creator causes or significantly increases a participant's fear and that distress becomes a central attraction of a monetised video, YouTube should be able to take action.

Depending on the seriousness of the case, this could include:

Warnings
Age restrictions
Demonetisation
Reduced recommendation
Removal in severe cases
5. Put safeguarding before sensationalism
Creators entering the homes of frightened families should have a responsibility not to deliberately increase fear simply to make a video more dramatic.

A terrified family should never become more valuable to a creator simply because fear produces more clicks.

This is not about whether ghosts are real
You can believe in ghosts and support this petition.

You can disbelieve in ghosts and support this petition.

Responsible paranormal investigators can support it too.

We are not asking YouTube to decide whether paranormal phenomena exist.

We are asking YouTube to protect real people from potentially harmful and frightening claims being presented to them as fact.

Our message is simple:

Investigate the paranormal. Don't exploit the frightened.
